Science + Thinking Skills in 7th Grade Class

We visited a great science teacher in Groton, NY yesterday afternoon. In addition to writing several great blogs, he is getting ready to teach a unit on the Human Body to his 7th grade students. To explore this topic, students will do all of the fantastic activities we know and love - a healthy dose of labs, videos that show the body’s systems in action, etc. Plus, we’re working to infuse thinking skills into this unit.

In the past, students have been able to list the systems within the body (Circulatory, Respiratory, Digestive, etc). But they struggled to see the relationships between these systems. Important scientific concepts like ‘diffusion’ were difficult.

Over the next week, we are working with this teacher to design a lesson modeling the relationships among the body’s systems. As we develop materials for this lesson, we’ll post them here for all to comment on, develop, and use. Stay tuned!

PS: He had this bumper sticker posted on his door --->
